*I believe the only modifier keys available for this are Shift, Control, Option and Command - you can use any one of them or combinations. The most common methods for putting your Mac to sleep are ( reference ): Press the power button for 1.5 seconds OptionCommandPower button OptionCommandMedia Eject button ControlPower button (will ask what you want not for use with a touch bar) ControlMedia Eject button (will ask what you want) Just to name a few. Voilà! Now the display will sleep only if you hold down the Command key before moving the cursor to the chosen Hot Corner. Before clicking “Put Display to Sleep” hold down the Command key (or another modifier key*) and then click “Put Display to Sleep”. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. To add a modifier key, open “System Preferences”, go to “Desktop & Screen Saver”, choose the “Screen Saver” tab, and click on “Hot Corners…”. You can add a “modifier key” (e.g., the “Command” key) to the hot corner sequence so that moving the cursor to the chosen hot corner does NOT sleep the screen unless you also push and hold the modifier key. In the dialog box use Sleep (or the equivalent to your 'Sleep' in your OS language - just check the Apple menu item) for the 'Menu Title' field and select a free shortcut. For example, the Undo shortcut would use Windows+Z instead of Command+Z. ![]() When using a Windows keyboard on a Mac, the Windows key is used instead of the Command key, and the Alt key is used in place of the Option key. ![]() I do not like using a Hot Corner (alone) because too often I would inadvertently sleep the screen by random movement of the the cursor. Goto System Preferences > Keyboard under the tab Shortcuts select App Shortcuts in the left column and then click the plus button.
